Sea buckthorn hot toddy
This is a perfect winter warmer, especially if you are feeling under the weather or have a cold. A great health boost!
Prep Time – 5 minutes
Total time – 15 minutes
Ingredients
- 100ml water
- 350ml apple juice
- 500g sea buckthorn berries
- 1 dessert spoon honey
- 1 cinnamon stick
- 1 star anise
- 1 apple (to serve)
- Whisky, dark rum or brandy (if you want an alcoholic version)
method
- Place water, apple juice and berries in a saucepan, bring to the boil, then simmer for 10 minutes
2. Take off the heat and crush the berries with a potato masher.
3. Strain the juice through a sieve and get as much juice as possible out of the berries.
4. Add the honey and spices (ideally leave to steep until you are ready to drink it) as well as the whisky, rum or brandy if you want some alcohol with it.
5. Pour into mugs or cups and serve with pieces of apple or orange.
